“SARAH SENECA Residential Services, Inc. evolved from the agency called SARAH which was established in 1957 by a small group of families with children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. At that time the only option available to individuals with these challenges was confinement to one of Connecticut’s institutions.”
These families wanted their sons and daughters to remain active members of their communities. Together they started a revolutionary process that soon culminated in the creation of supported homes, a school, and a number of small business opportunities which employed the skills that these individuals could provide to the community.
In 1990 the Sarah split itself into four self-sustaining agencies. These four Sarah agencies now include:
- SARAH SENECA Residential Services, Inc.
- The SARAH Foundation
- SARAH Inc.
- SARAH Tuxis
